Clinical and Commercial Opportunity in the GI Field

There are numerous therapeutic opportunities in the gastrointestinal field including disorders for which there is no current treatment available or for which the current treatment is less than effective or produces unpleasant and sometimes harmful side effects. In the U.S. alone, the number of patients who could benefit from enhanced therapeutics is enormous, considering the statistics on the numbers of individuals in the U.S. with the following gastrointestinal conditions:

  • Mucositis (350,000–400,000)
  • Motility Disorders (>15,000,000)
  • Chronic Hepatitis and Cirrhosis (8,000,000)
  • Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (1,000,000)
  • Reflux Disease and Barrett's Esophagus (16,000,000)
  • Gastric Damage, for example by NSAID Gastropathy (>1,000,000)
  • Necrotizing Enterocolitis (50,000)
  • Gastrointestinal Cancers (1,000,000)

The mission of The GI Company is to develop and produce novel and effective therapeutics for the treatment of patients suffering from these and other gastrointestinal diseases.
